ABOUT

Considered by many as one of the most promising & versatile Electronic South African producers, Thakzin counts his peers Shimza, Themba or Black Coffee as some of his most prominent ambassadors. His genre-bending universal sound is fusing forward-thinking South African genres with the roots of a wider African culture and Urban and electronic influences from around the world.

Born of a South African & Mozambican family of musicians, Thakzin is a contemplative life observer who discovered djing in his early teenage years & dived into the culture to become the versatile & uplifting DJ he is today. In 2010, he started to learn music production, drawing a long path of experimentation, and developing the musicality & versatility of his sound signature. Inspired by the Sangoma’s Zulu Traditional Healers (based on drum rituals to heal physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually), Thakzin has a profound belief in the healing power of music and the virtues of spiritual elevation & positive energy through the universality of dancing.

His productions have been supported by a wide range of International A-listers: Folamour, Keinemusik, Atjazz, Osunlade, Louie Vega, Pablo Fierro, Jimpster, Eric Kupper, Hyenah, Laurent Garnier, Oscar P, Rocco Rodamaal or Manoo to name a few.

After co-producing “Sound Of Freedom” in 2021, Themba’s most popular track worldwide, he released the smash hit “ICU” in 2022 in collaboration with Sun-EL Musician & Thandazo on Rocco Rodamaal & Dairmount’s ‘Memories’ imprint. In that year, he also collaborated with Nana Atta, Oscar MBO & Mörda amongst others.

His single “The Magnificent Dance” (released in Dec 2022 on Sondela) became one of the most viral tracks of the South African summer of 2022 & caused a stir globally, laying down the foundation of a hybrid of Amapiano & Deep House, trending as the new 3Step sound & installing him as its originator.

In 2023, Thakzin’s rise has been unstoppable thanks to strong singles such as Don’t Let Me See (released on the premium UK label Foliage), Please Don’t or the very hyped Possessed (released on Shimza’s Kunye imprint), which confirmed him as a mainstay in the selections of the biggest global dj’s as well as in the most important BBC1 shows of Pete Tong or Benji B. Backed up by his strong bound with the South African audience, he took the world by storm by gaining momentum in UK, the US & Central Europe with France, Germany & Netherlands leading the way.

Additionally, some of Thakzin’s remixes made a significant impact on the South African crowd, installing him at the forefront of the most spectacular rising artists of 2023: Yes God of Oscar MBO (reworked with Mörda & Mhaw Keys) and Dj Kent’s classic Horns In the Sun (featuring catchy new vocals of Brenden Praise). Both tracks generated millions of streams across Spotify & Apple Music only and became firm favourites among DJs across the nation.

Thakzin is also co-producer of the brand new single of Zakes Bantwini, alongside Suffocate SA, Drega, Samurai of Mama Thula (with vocals of Skye Wanda), currently becoming the anthem of the World Champion South African Rugby team.

A DJ at heart since his early years, Thakzin is a prolific in-demand performer in South Africa playing major events such as Spring Fiesta, El-World Festival or Kunye. He has also been one of the few performers selected by Black Coffee (for the send-off party of his historic Madison Square Garden show in Johannesburg) and by Keinemusik (to open at the first ever Johannesburg event).

This October, Thakzin made his Asian debut in Hong Kong and his European debut at ADE in Amsterdam, headlining the “Tribes x Descendants” event at the legendary Paradiso. His International dj Schedule is already in full steam for 2024 with headlining his UK debut with Sondela in London & more European & US dates to be announced soon.
